Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who went out cycling on the streets of Islamabad during the coronavirus lockdown, has been slammed by his fans across social media.

The Speed star faced social media criticism after his video of cycling in Islamabad’s red zone went viral with widespread questions being raised over being out for leisure during the times of a lockdown.

Akhtar was criticized for advocating and calling on people to stay indoors during and stay away and safe from the COVID-19 virus, while roaming around without protective gear, on a bicycle, that also on the main Aiwan-e-Sadar in the capital Islamabad, the main road that has the President House, Prime Minister House, Supreme Court, PM Secretariat, National Assembly, Senate, Foreign Office and the Diplomatic Enclave.

“Shoaib bhai, you were seen advocating and urging people to stay indoors, while you are out cycling on the main roads??”, said one angry follower of Akhtar on social media.

Some also raised serious concerns over Shoaib Akhtar’s stunt, saying that he can be seen cycling on the main road without any helmet or protective gear, which can not only cause the coronavirus but also is dangerous and can trigger an accident.

“He is cycling and seeing here and there, being on the main road. This is dangerous more than exciting as you can catch the virus and also can indulge in a road accident because of your recklessness”.

The criticism schooled Akhtar and reminded him of his own recent videos calling on people to refrain from going out of their home unnecessarily.

One of his followers also raised concerns over his followers, taking his lead and opting to go out with their vehicles at a time when the government has imposed restrictions of movement to tackle the spread of COVID-19.

This prompted Akhtar’s agent to take the video off his page before the criticism would turn ugly.
